Acura delivered a thunderclap with its extraordinary 2016 Precision Concept at this year\u2019s North American International Auto Show (NAIAS), a product that demonstrated the brand\u2019s design path going forward.<\/strong><\/p>\n

\"Acura-Precision-Concept-2016-3\"<\/a><\/p>\n

The Precision Concept demonstrates Acura\u2019s new grille design; dubbed \u201cDiamond Pentagon\u201d, it strives to banish the awful \u201cShield\u201d grille from our collective memories.<\/p>\n

What that means is a proud grille with sharply-defined edges, aggressive angles and an altogether ultra-futuristic look. Of course, Acura\u2019s multi-LED \u201cJewel Eye\u201d headlamps\u2014originally seen on the RLX and MDX, and now on every car in the line-up\u2014flank the grille on either side. What\u2019s achieved is an altogether more piercing and almost scowling front fascia.<\/p>\n

In profile, the Precision is Acura\u2019s take on the \u201cfour-door coupe\u201d that has become manifest across the luxury car segment. That means a very low roofline and narrow windows. To help complete the look, the door pillars have been pulled as far to the edges of the greenhouse as possible. It\u2019s also been fitted with 22-inch five-spoke wheels, wrapped in grippy Michelin Pilot Super Sport rubber.<\/p>\n

The rear fascia gets a complex treatment, punctuated with distinctive taillights whose construction the likes of which we\u2019ve never seen before. The gaping, satin-finished exhaust outlets are the cherry on top of the proceedings.<\/p>\n

Inside, much of what\u2019s seen can be traced back to the soon-to-be released NSX supercar. The high-reaching centre stack, meanwhile, is home to an enormous touchscreen display that recalls an iPad, and supports hand-gesture commands.<\/p>\n

Unfortunately (and, indeed, unsurprisingly) Acura wasn\u2019t able to slide any kind of powerplant under the long hood, so there are no technical details to speak of. One thing is for certain, however: this car is inspiring, and it will be interesting to see what Acura does with the design language it presents.<\/p>\n
