There are a host of different noises that come from your car, and they all have a different meaning, a meaning that unfortunately most often translates into a precautionary visit to your favorite mechanic.<\/p>\n

“This may seem insignificant, but customers who are attentive to their car noises are our best allies. A brief description of a given noise, even if it\u2019s not that specific, helps us know where to look and see if something might be wrong,” says an adviser at Glenmore Audi<\/a>.<\/p>\n

There are two types of noises that can filter through the cockpit. You have noises related to the cockpit itself, which often are caused by loose fittings or components that are not attached properly (it can be something as simple as wobbly trunk cover), and then you have noises related to mechanical problems. These are easier to pinpoint as they are often metallic and quite noticeable.<\/p>\n

Sometimes, a noise will come and never come back. However, if the noise persists, a visit to your dealership may be warranted. For high performance cars, the type of gas you put in your vehicle is very important, and some noises may be caused by the improper fuel being used.<\/p>\n

If your brakes are squeaking, it means that your brake pads are at the end of their life. Be aware that certain performance pads, when cold or dirty, also have a characteristic squeak which disappears with use.<\/p>\n

If you hear a very high-pitched hissing noise coming from under the hood, like you have a snake in there, it may mean you have a coolant leak which needs to be addressed immediately.<\/p>\n
