Some examples of active safety systems

Increasingly present in modern cars, even those that might be considered as affordable, active safety technologies, also known as driver assistance technologies, are able to help you prevent an accident before it happens by taking control of the steering, brakes or accelerator if you do not react.

Honda Sensing

Here are some examples of active safety.

Intelligent Cruise Control

Also known as adaptive cruise control, it is a technology that monitors vehicles ahead when cruise control is activated. By programming a preset distance, the car will be able to maintain this distance between you and the vehicle in front automatically by controlling the brakes as well as the accelerator.

Lane monitoring

There are two systems here. The first warns you if you’re about to change lanes without activating your turn signal. The second can even take control of the steering wheel and keep you in the middle of the lane.

Automatic braking

Automatic braking can occur both on the highway and in the city. If a vehicle suddenly brakes in front of you, the car will automatically apply the brakes to prevent a collision.

Cross traffic monitoring

It is sometimes difficult to know if another vehicle is approaching when we are backing up. Rear cross traffic monitoring systems are able to detect these vehicles approaching you and even slow your vehicle if you keep backing up after an audible warning told you that a car was approaching.

Pedestrian detection

Active safety technologies are not simply limited to the monitoring other cars. Some systems are also able to automatically brake the vehicle if a pedestrian crosses in front of you.
