The Chevrolet corvette is a source inspiration for numerous people, from dreamers, to tech fiends, to racers and on and on and on. In fact, it has inspired some truly magnificent spin-offs, the most recent of which comes courtesy of the competition arm of tuning house Callaway, who has been churning out mutant ‘Vettes for over two decades.
In that light, Callaway Competition revealed the 2015 Corvette C7 GT3-R at the Hockenheimring in Germany.
Designed by Canadian Paul Deutschman, its entry into the ADAC GT Masters Championship necessitates a comprehensive A to Z re-imagining of the Corvette Coupe on which it’s based. Indeed, a few elements in the silhouette and a headlight detail are really the only places where you’ll see any remnant of the standard Corvette. Everything else has been penned by Deutschman, with a heavy focus on carbon throughout the body, lightness being the order of the day.
Callaway bosses Ernst Woehr and Giovanni Ciccone are understandably excited about the 2015 Callaway Corvette GT3-R.
“We wanted to add another cornerstone to our enterprise with a design, development and construction that solidifies the future for 2016 and the years to come. We knew from the beginning that for a small enterprise like ours this would be a major project, but also an extremely motivating one.”
Callaway is remaining coy when it comes to technical specifications, we do know that there will be a 6.2-litre V8 underhood, pushing out at least 600 horsepower. We’ll have to wait for the beginning of the GT Masters race season to learn more.
