The dealership may not have the car you want

You have finally decided on the model you will buy. You have spent hours reading various reviews and then more time on the manufacturer’s website deciding on the color, specifications and optional equipment to add to your vehicle. You have done all of this only to find out from the dealership that the model you want is not available.

New vehicles today are often available in four or five trims and a dozen colors. Dealerships have to plan ahead when deciding how the vehicles they offer in their showroom will be configured, and more often than not they will go with the most popular options, which is understandable. That means that they will put the focus on white, black and grey cars, or perhaps a bright red model if we are talking about a sports car.

If 9 out of 10 buyers are going for the automatic transmission in a model also offered with a six-speed manual, most dealerships will carry that model exclusively equipped with an automatic transmission.

Moreover, if it’s the end of the year, there will be less and less models available for sale. So how do you go about finding the vehicle that is exactly how you want it?

Well first, you can always check online on manufacturer websites if there is a vehicle like the one you desired somewhere in the country. You can also call dealerships and see if they have one exactly like you want, or at the very least if they know of other dealerships where the dealer you are calling could get the vehicle. Dealers will sometimes trade models among themselves if they are not close to one another.

If not, you can always order the car exactly to your specifications, but know that you will have to wait between three and six months before receiving it.

So, the best advice we can give is to plan ahead. If you know you will be buying your car in three months, visit your dealership and see if they have what you want. If not, you can order it and it will arrive when you need it.
