Is this a bold move, or is Volvo simply ahead of the curve? Volvo\u2019s been hard at work reinventing itself over the last 7-8 years. In the process, they decided to also to hoist themselves to the forefront of hybrid and electric vehicle technologies.<\/p>\n

Volvo Cars’ T8 Twin Engine Range<\/p><\/div>\n

Perhaps the most brilliant move has been combining gorgeous car designs with these green technologies. Currently, the largest and only engine size one can get in a new Volvo is a boosted 2.0-litre 4-cylinder with outputs ranging from 240 to 400 horsepower. The latter amount of horsepower belongs to the XC90 T8 plug-in hybrid.<\/p>\n

And this is where Volvo\u2019s headed. From the 2019 model year, every new Volvo product introduced will include an electric motor. In fact, between 2019 and 2021, five new fully electric cars will debut. Three will be for the Volvo brand while two will be high-performance cars from Polestar! All the others will become either plug-in or mild hybrid cars.<\/p>\n

This news is scary, and enthralling all at once. High-power sedans, wagons and crossovers with low fuel consumption will be common, and welcomed. And what about Polestar? Will 400+ (500+?) horsepower AWD electric sedans and wagons capable of giving the Tesla Model S P100D a run for its money be a thing? Now that\u2019s the exciting part in my pinion.<\/p>\n

This bold announcement is part of Volvo\u2019s plan to have climate neutral manufacturing operations by 2025. We certainly are looking forward to hearing more about this in the near future.<\/p>\n
