Any time Volvo unveils a new model, the world must take notice. Indeed, the Swedish manufacturer isn\u2019t exactly Speedy Gonzalez when it comes to renewing its lineup, and if you need proof just think of the XC90 which spent more than 12 years on the market without being really updated. It wasn\u2019t until 2014 that a second generation made its way to the market.<\/p>\n

The XC60 arrived in 2009 and spent almost 8 years without any significant changes. We are still waiting for a new S60, the current model having been introduced in 2010. These delays are enormous, especially when we are talking about luxury vehicles.<\/p>\n

But all that doesn\u2019t take anything away from the brand new Volvo XC40 unveiled today in Italy. As the new entry-level SUV from Gothenburg, the XC40 will try to capitalize on the growing popularity of small sport utility vehicles. Its rivals will include the Mercedes-Benz GLA, BMW X1, Lexus NX, Infiniti QX30 and Audi Q3, among others.<\/p>\n

Sharing many design elements with the new XC90 and XC60, the XC40 is built on a brand new modular platform that will also be used as a starting point for other models developed by Volvo.<\/p>\n

All 2019 Volvo XC40s sold in Canada will get standard all-wheel drive and a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine developing 250 horsepower and 258 lb.-ft. of torque. The power will be sent to the front wheels through an 8-speed automatic transmission.<\/p>\n

According to the Car Guide that traveled to Italy to discover the new 2019 XC40, its starting price will be set at $ 39,500.<\/p>\n
