Advanced active safety features are now more and more present on modern vehicles. These systems are there to prevent collisions should the driver be distracted or tired. Although we should not rely on these systems, they can be very useful in preventing accidents.<\/strong><\/p>\n

\"Blind<\/a><\/p>\n

\u201cSome of the technology found on modern cars is quite simply extraordinary. Some may feel they are distracting, but in the end, if only one accident is prevented because of active safety features, they are worth it\u201d, says a sales manager at Mercedes-Benz Ottawa<\/strong><\/a>.<\/p>\n

Adaptive cruise control<\/p>\n

Adaptive cruise control is a modern take on the good old cruise control system. Using sensors that are focused on what is happening in front of your vehicle as well as radar and cameras, ACC detects the speed of upcoming vehicles and automatically adjusts the speed of your vehicle when cruise control is activated in order to preserve a safe, pre-determined and adjustable distance between both vehicles.<\/p>\n

Cross Traffic Alert<\/p>\n

Cross Traffic Alert is a system that uses lateral sensors and radars to warn the driver when a vehicle is approaching perpendicularly. In other words, when backing up, the driver will get a warning if a vehicle is coming from the left or the right. Moreover, some models are equipped with systems that can warn you if a vehicle is approaching an intersection from the left or the right before you have had a chance to see that vehicle.<\/p>\n

Blind Spot Detection<\/p>\n

Blind Spot Detection will use a lighting system to tell the driver if a vehicle is in their car\u2019s blind spot. If so, a light will light up near the appropriate side mirror.<\/p>\n

Lane Departure Warning and Prevention<\/p>\n

If we are tired and driving on the highway, our vehicle may begin to swerve in and out of our correct lane. LDW prevents this by warning the driver if he or she did not activate the turn signal. Some vehicles are also capable of automatically correcting the vehicle\u2019s trajectory to make sure it stays within its lane.<\/p>\n

Autonomous braking<\/p>\n

Like the name suggests, autonomous braking will apply the brakes automatically if the driver fails to do so and a collision is imminent.<\/p>\n

Forward Collision Prevention<\/p>\n

Much like autonomous braking, FCP will apply the brakes automatically in the event that the driver fails to stop when a vehicle, person or object is in front of the car.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
