After the i3 and i8, it seems that BMW is planning a third eco-friendly model, the BMW i5. In fact, the rumor of a possible i5 have been rampant for a while now, and European site Carscoops happened to fall on some images of a patent from Japan (yeah, I know, it’s weird) that seem to confirm that the midsize BMW electric vehicle is actually a reality.
From the outset, it is true that the pictures do not offer a lot of information. That said, the minimalist grille and the overall shape of the car we see in pictures show a design that would make sense for the next i5.
All this is only speculative, however. Nothing is known about the BMW i5, and there is no confirmation that these images are those of the next green BMW. We do know, however, that the next i3 will have 300 km of range in order to better compete with upcoming electric cars, but that beyond that BMW doesn’t have much in the way of EVs.
A new BMW i5 would add a little more mainstream flavor to the BMW i range, and a little bit more visibility. After all, the BMW i8 is spectacular, but it’s basically a supercar. All that’s left after that is the i3, and you don’t build a brand with just one accessible model.
