Active safety systems: guardian angels for your family

There are plenty of ways your vehicle can keep you safe on the road. When you look at new vehicles that have hit the market in recent years, it is very difficult to find a dangerous model. They simply do not exist anymore. That said, there are ways that you can improve the overall safety of your vehicle.

Active safety systems

“There are two types of safety features in modern vehicles: active safety and passive safety. Passive safety relates to features that protect you once an accident has happened. Airbags, a stiff structure, impact zones… these are passive safety features. Active safety features on the other hand are designed to prevent an accident from happening” says a sales representative at Morrey Infiniti.

That means that active safety features can brake your vehicle for you, or warn you when a collision is possible. They can also take control of your steering wheel to keep you in the correct lane should you begin to swerve.

Active safety systems use a wide array of radars and cameras to understand what is happening around the vehicle and to make sure that the driver is also aware. If he or she is not, then the vehicle can take control.

Automatic braking is probably the most common active safety feature. An audible warning (often called forward collision alert) will warn the driver if the vehicle ahead is stopped or slowing down suddenly. Automatic braking will stop the vehicle if the driver does not react. Infiniti pushes the notion a bit further by warning the driver if the vehicle ahead of the vehicle in front of their car is slowing down.

Active cruise control can automatically keep a pre-determine distance between your vehicle and the one ahead. Rear cross traffic alert will warn you if another vehicle is approaching when you are backing up. Blind spot alert can tell you if another vehicle is in your blind spot while lane keep assist will warn you if you are swerving and even take control of the steering wheel to put you back on track.

No question about it, you are more protected than ever before in modern vehicles.
