Callaway’s take on the Corvette Stingray is…powerful

The pics may not be great, but that doesn’t really matter. All you have to know about Callaway’s take on the Corvette Stingray is the numbers. Oh, and don’t call it a Callaway C7; that name is taken by Callaway already, for a model released in 1996.

120

As always, buyers will not be disappointed by the new car. The American Corvette magician has found a way to raise the power of the of the ‘Vette’s 6.2-litre V8 to a brutal 757 horsepower and 777 lb.-ft. of torque. I guess the fact that those numbers are the same thing attached to Boeing jets is just a coincidence. Those are increases of 107 and 127, respectively, on the stock Z06.

In order to arrive at those numbers, Callaway has optimized air flow through the engine, added a three-rad cooling system but above all, a Callaway GenThree supercharger.

The results, obviously, are impressive. Callaway is claiming a 0-100 km/h time of just 2.8 seconds, on the way to a 10.5 second ¼ mile, which it hits at 210 km/h. Dom would probably be happy with that.

It may be based on the Z06, but numerous stylistic additions will help differentiate. Larger hood openings, new wheels and rectangular front openings are all new fare. Under the hood, a carbon-fibre cover replaces the plastic item from the Z06.

Considering these additions, the U.S. $16,995 upgrade price hardly seems like an exaggeration. The base price of a Z06 in Canada is $88,995.
