If what Ford was saying at both the Los Angeles and North American auto shows was true, then we’d be seeing the all-new Shelby Mustangs—the GT350 and GT350R—sometime in late 2015 for the 2016 model year. Of course, if what Ford was saying was true, they’d be missing out on using the hottest of Mustangs to celebrate the car’s 50th Anniversary.
In that light, a limited run of 100 GT350s and 37 GT350Rs will be released as 2015 models; 50 of the GT350s will get the Track Package, and 50 will get the Tech Package in an effort to further diversify this limited-edition model run.
Of course, interest in these special models should be high, considering that we’re talking about the most powerful natural-aspirated Mustang ever manufactured by Ford, and as we all know: there’s no replacement for displacement. In that light, the 5.2-litre block will make over 500 horsepower and 400 lb.-ft. of torque. Dearborn is keeping us all on ice with regards to exact power figures until the car’s release. Buyers will also get a six-speed manual gearbox and Torsen limited-slip differential, tuned specially for the GT350 by Ford engineers.
“To honor the passion of our fans for Shelby GT350’s 50th anniversary, a limited run of GT350 models will be built in 2015; these cars will be highly coveted by both Mustang and Shelby enthusiasts alike,” said Henry Ford III, grandson of Henry The First and Ford Performance Marketing Manager.
