Tire pressure is more important than you think

To understand the importance of tires, remember that they are the one and only point of contact between your car and the road. This is why it is very important that your vehicle be equipped with good tires that correspond to the intended use of your vehicle, and of course that your tires be in good condition.

After you have made sure of everything stated above, you must also ensure that your tires’ pressure is adequate. Indeed, the effectiveness of your tires, even if they are in good condition and not too worn out, will be greatly reduced if they are not inflated to the correct pressure.

Most of the time we drive with under-inflated tire. This means that there is not enough air in the tire.

“An under-inflated tire will lower your vehicle’s fuel economy, but that’s not all. Your tire will also overheat faster, thus increasing the chances of an explosion all the while making your vehicle unstable as the speed increases,” says an adviser to the parts and accessories department at Belvédère Nissan.

That said, an overinflated tire can also cause you problems. First, the contact surface of the tire is reduced as the latter is in contact with the road primarily in the middle of the rolling surface. This has the effect of increasing wear and reducing comfort.

To know what the ideal pressure for your tires is, you should consult the label that is usually located inside of the door frame. It may also be in the glove compartment or in the owner’s manual. You can also check with your dealer or with the tire manufacturer.

Once you know the right pressure, make sure to check it regularly using a pressure gauge.
