Not only did Rolls-Royce land in New York with the fabulous Nighthawk Dropehad, it also chose the New York International Auto Show as the venue to reveal the special edition Rolls-Royce Wraith ‘Inspired by Film.”
While many were hoping to see a debut of an RR SUV concept, they’ll have to settle with a subtly-decorated version of the elegant coupe. It seem much too early for Rolls to present a concept, considering they only just announced in February that they had plans to build one.
With the Inspired by Film, RR is paying homage to both its numerous appearances on the silver screen (which is why it’s finished in two-tones, both of them silver. Duh.), as well as the British Film Institute’s accepting of And the World Stood Still–a short originally created by RR to help introduce the Wraith–into its archives. We understand the British manufacturer’s enthusiasm; but a special model? Really?
Along with the special paintjob, the Inspired by Film gets a bespoke Spirit of Ecstasy hood ornament, handcrafted in solid silver. Like always, the ornament is retractable in order to deter thieves; you’d think they’d be extra-enthusiastic to grab one of these special silver ladies. Forget going to the pawn shop; they’d have to go to a jewelry wholesaler.
It should come as no surprise that nothing changes under the hood, considering the 624 horsepower and 590 lb.-ft. of torque made by the 6.6-litre V12 is power aplenty, especially when all you’re doing is cruising around Hollywood…
There’s been no conformation as to how many RR is going to build, but rest assured they’ll sell all of these, like they always do when it comes to special Rollers.
