Ford has started production on two of 2015-16’s most anticipated vehicles, the Ford Mustang Shelby GT350 and Ford Mustang Shelby GT350R. Like every other Mustang ever conceived, it’s at the factory in Flat Rock, MI where the next chapter in the Mustang legend begins.
Considering that these two are some of the most extreme in the Mustang’s 50-year history, we can scarcely believe this mechanical monster is finally a reality. It was under Bill Ford’s attentive watch that the first two models rolled off the line. Ford, great grandson of founder Henry Ford, was quick to sing the praises of the model. “Today is a special day for Mustang enthusiasts. We have taken the GT350 formula to another level in terms of innovation, style and performance.
“Today, the legend continues.”
Ford really has pushed the envelope in developing the GT350. For starters, there’s the flat-plane 5.2 litre V8 that’s good for 526 horsepower and 426 lb.-ft. of torque, all sent to the rear wheels. Coupled with the Tremec six-speed manual transmission and Torsen limited-slip differential, what we have is a car built as specifically for the track as any Mustang has ever been.
With the start of production at Flat Rock, the cars will soon be arriving at dealerships. Ford released a very limited quantity of cars for the 2015 model year (only 100 units), so expect the lion’s share of models to be MY ’16, starting at $64,249 for the GT350, and just over $83,000 for the GT350R.
