If the super-techy, super-luxe Mercedes-Benz S-Class Coupe or Sedan aren’t quite “bling” enough for you, if you want to make sure everyone knows who’s driving the techiest Benz ever or maybe if you just like the feeling of wind in your hair, then perhaps the S-Class Cabriolet will be just the ticket.
Drawing inspiration from the series 111 and 112 drop-top S-Class models that glidied over motorways from 1961-71, the latest S-Class “symbolizes our passion for individual and timelessly exclusive mobility, which we share with our customers,” said Daimler AG board member Ola Källenius.
Chief innovations to help make the S-Class Cab as comfortable as possible include both the AirScarf and AirCap, as well as intelligent climate control. The AirCap provides a windshield extension that forces headwinds up higher so they don’t affect rear passengers, while the AirScarf provides ventilation below the headrests to help warm the occupants.
No power figures or drivetrain figures have been revealed, but expect a range of V8s, making 449-577 horsepower and a V12 version, good for over 730 lb.-ft. of torque.
So far, we only have one photo showcasing the new car, but if the S-Class Coupe is anything to go by, perennial segment leaders Bentley will likely have something to think about as the car nears production. Expect a full reveal at this year’s Frankfurt Auto Show.
