LA Auto Show: Porsche 911, Cayman GT4 and Macan GTS make North American debuts

Los Angeles, CA — The LA Auto Show is always a fun party for Porsche; Los Angeles itself is one of the biggest markets in the world for Porsche sales, so it stands to reason why they like to maintain a heavy presence at the LA Show.

At the 2015 show, the stars were the next-generation 911 Targa 4S, as well as the debut of the Cayman GT4 Clubsport (read: race car).

While the Targa is a world launch, it was also the first time we saw the next-gen 911 in North America after it debuted in Frankfurt. Now it’s our turn to take it in in person.

The Targa follows the regular 911 in the power department; that means a 3.0-litre, turbocharged flat-6 good for 420 horsepower. As is Porsche’s wont these days, it’s paired to a seven-speed PDK automatic transmission.

Also new on North American soil is the Macan GTS, which debuted at the Tokyo Auto Show a few weeks back. It’s the third model in the Macan line-up, sitting in-between the S and Turbo. It’s turbocharged V6 is good for 360 hp.

Last but most definitely not least is the Cayman GT4 Clubsport, conceived exclusively for track use. A host of functional aero upgrades complete the physical additions, and weight has been dropped to around 1,300 kilos. That’s a lot less girth for the 385 (estimated) hp flat-six to shift around, and of course, the PDK is your only choice.

Technically, the Cayman GT4 is not for sale in Canada, those who really want the raciest of Caymans will be able to procure one through Porsche Motorsport North America, for the not-so-small sum of $110,000.
