Lexus LF-C2 Concept dazzles in LA

While it may be little more that a design study and a strong hint at what a convertible version of the latest Lexus IS (call it “IS C”) may look like, the LF-C2 Concept is nevertheless a dazzling sight to behold.

(Los Angeles, CA) The golden yellow puts most of the cars in the “aftermarket” exhibit to shame—that’s what happens when you apply a multi-layer pantjob—the awesome 20-inch 3D wheels follow suit and this most extreme version of Lexus’ signature spindle grille falls just short of mesmerizing. You’d swear a thousand different wires were used to create it.

The headlights, of course, are of the LED variety  and while they’re boomerang shapes will probably never see the light of day, they do look awesome. For their part, the taillights look a little more production-ready, although the way their inner edge isn’t an edge at all—it reminds of the classic side strakes on the Ferrari Testarossa—is probably a little much for the International Institute of Highway Safety.

The bright white leather found inside may also be a little much, but they probably had to tint it as such in order for it to stand out from the also very bright paintjob. The ergonomic seatbacks both front and back, however, could very well represent the future of Lexus seat design.

Of course, when it comes to the interior, what I really want to know is whether or not the metallic blue touch pad on the centre console actually works, and could come to future Lexus products; it doesn’t get more futuristic Minority Report-like than that. The fact that the tint is matched both on the steering wheel spokes and centrally-mounted analogue clock is just some icing on the cake.

Of course, this being a concept, no powertrain was discussed, but with looks like that, the 3.5L, 306 hp V6 already seen in the IS 350 sedan would do just fine.
