The Q60 is reborn. The popular Infiniti coupe, originally known as the G35, later replaced by G37 and onto Q60 after model names changed throughout Infiniti’s line-up, gets refreshed for 2017 both on the stylistic and performance fronts. The final version, presented by none other than Renault-Nissan CEO Carlos Ghosn, at least appears to be a new, important tool in the beleaguered company’s toolchest.
While exterior styling has only been lightly refreshed, Infiniti will offer a number of versions, each one powered by a more refined motor than that which sits below it in the line-up. The base model, meanwhile, gets a new 2.0-litre four-cylinder unit capable of delivering 208 horsepower and 258 lb.-ft. of torque.
The most popular version will likely be that which sits in the middle of the line-up, which gets and all-new 3.0L twin-turbo V6, recently added to the Q50, which is the Q60’s sedan cousin. In 2017, the motor—codenamed VR30—will be available in two versions. A base model, good for 300 hp and 295 lb.-ft, while the new Red Sport (“Red Sport”? Really?) trim gets a 400 hp, 350 lb.-ft. version.
V6-powered models get a second generation of Infiniti’s Drive Adaptive Steering steer-by-wire system, offering six different modes. Electroninc safety systems such as lane-keep assist and forward collision alert will also be available.
A single seven-speed automatic transmission will be available for all trims, with all-wheel drive as an option (it will be rear-wheel drive otherwise). No performance figures were outlined at the show, but Infiniti did say that an all-new electronic suspension will be offered on the Red Sport (again: really?) trim.
Stylistically, the Q60 bears numerous family ties, including its five-point grille. The headlight lenses look similar but are a little more sinister-looking, while the silhouette bears a striking resemblance to the current car, if one that’s a little longer overall. 19-inch wheels will come as standard.
Inside, a comprehensive new feature set adds a heads-up display and an all-new “InTuition” infotainment system that provides the ability to store temperature, navigation, seat position and infotainment settings.
The 2017 Infiniti Q60 will be available summer of this year.
