Fall has been officially here since September 21st. And although we haven’t quite had any freezing temperatures yet, we unfortunately all know they are coming. There are quite a few things to do in order to get ready for winter. One of the most important if we are a vehicle owner is to replace our summer tires with a set that is adapted to winter.
“Although there is no law that requires motorists to equip their vehicle with winter tires in New-Brunswick, we can all agree that driving on ice and snow is a lot easier, and quite safer, when we have them. So the first thing is to decide that we will put a set of winter tires on our vehicle”, says a service advisor at Bathurst Honda.
So that’s settled. Now, all that is left is to decide when we will put our winter tires on our vehicle.
There is no perfect or pre-determined date. That said, know that summer tires lose their effectiveness when the temperature drops below seven degrees. So when the weather outside starts to dip below 10 degrees over the course of a few days, it’s time to start thinking about replacing your tires.
If you are already have a set of winter tires, check to see if they are still in good condition. To do so, have a look at the tire’s thread depth which needs to be thicker than 6/32”. If the thread’s depth is less than that, your current tires will probably not survive the entire season.
One final tip: book your appointment as soon as possible. Tire centers and dealerships will see their appointments filling up very soon, and you do not want to be stuck in December without winter tires!
So now, why not make an appointment today?
