Tips to Save Money this Summer

Did you know that the summer is probably the season in which consumers use the most amount of fuel? Why? Because they go on vacation and long road trips more often, for one, but also their driving habits change.

If you want to avoid seeing your fuel economy go down in summer, here are some tips that will help.

1- Do not let the engine run

What is true in the winter is just as true as in the summer. We tend to turn on the car to cool it down. But by opening windows, it will let out the warm air and quickly cool down the inside of your car, even if the outside temperature is scorching.

2- Do not leave bike racks on all summer

Unless you are training for a race or something, it is a safe bet to say that you do not need to carry your bike on your vehicle every day. So take advantage of the days where you do not use your bike to remove the bike racks. Same goes for roof boxes when you are back from vacation. The extra friction generated by these objects is increasing your fuel consumption significantly.

3- Changing gears

It is true that sporty drivers like to hear the sound of their engines. That said, holding off the throttle, changing gears quickly to lower your RPM, and basically driving in a linear and relaxed fashion will do wonders for your fuel economy.

  1. Close the windows on the freeway

Yes, open your windows to cool down, but in the city. On the highway, roll up your windows and use the air conditioning system. The open windows generate drag which increases fuel consumption.
