Infiniti teases interior of 2016 Q30 prior to Frankfurt debut

As the Frankfurt Auto show approaches, Infiniti is slowly revealing teasers about its upcoming compact, the 2016 Q30. A few weeks ago, we saw the front three-quarter view; today, it’s the interior’s turn in the spotlight.

While we’ve only seen tidbits, it’s clear that with the Q30, Infiniti is focusing strongly on interior design. Further, by not completely looking like other members of the Infiniti family, the Q30 is showcasing a more contemporary approach.

By Infiniti’s own admittance, they wanted to provide a premium, modern ambiance even though the Q30 does sit in the compact segment. That translates to an interior featuring a collection of premium materials, and styling to better attract future clients. They’ve even reached out to the Italians in order to source the finest suede possible. Infiniti also says that buyers will be able to select a dual-tone leather dashboard, among other configurations.

It seems that the brand’s partnership with Mercedes-Benz has been fruitful. Indeed, some of the materials and parts found in the Q30 can also be found in the A-, CLA- and GLA-Class models. Indeed, a quick look at the door handles and door-mounted seat controls reveals a clear link with the German manufacturer.

Mechanically, we’re still waiting for some confirmation from Infiniti, but we do know that the engines will come directly from Mercedes. Right now, the only motor available in North American Mercedes models that would work under the Q30’s stubby hood is a 2.0-litre turbocharged inline-four found in the CLA250. The small Mercedes models do get a diesel option in Europe, but it remains a mystery if we’ll be seeing them over here.

The 2016 Infiniti Q30 will be officially revealed on September 15 in Frankfurt.
