Los Angeles, CA — An effortless ride and a global buying experience without equal; it’s with that in mind that the 2017 Lincoln MKZ was revealed at this week’s LA Auto Show. The American luxury manufacturer’s midsize has some work to do to raise its stead in the segment, but some nice additions have been made to the model to help attract new buyers.
The Piece de resistance is an all-new twin-turbo, 3.0L EcoBoost V6 that makes 400 horsepower and 400 lb.-ft. of torque. Two other motors complete the line-up, a hybrid and a 245 hp four-cylinder.
Three drive modes are on-hand courtesy of Lincoln Drive Control—Comfort, Normal and Sport—each offering its own steering suspension settings.
New driving aides are also offered, including adaptive cruise control that can bring the MKZ to a full stop, helping progress stop-and-go traffic.
Interior fit-and-finish is top-notch, punctuated by two types of Revel audio systems, that the Lincoln folks swear will blow your socks off. The glass roof, meanwhile, retracts to shine plenty of light on rear seat passengers.
Outside, the chrome accents are strong. A new signature grille replaces the split-wing grille from the last model, while adaptive LED headlights help form the new face of Lincoln and bring the MKZ’s styling more in-keeping with other cars in the segment.
With the remodeled MKZ, Lincoln is making an audacious declaration in the segment. It remains to be seen whether or not buyers of the European competition will be drawn closer to the brand.
