Lamborghini Urus to get V8 power

It’s been confirmed: The Lamborghini Urus SUV will be powered by a 4.0-litre V8. With the announcement, years of rumours and speculation as to what will be found under the hood of the exclusive Italian sport ute can finally be put to rest.

According to Lambo boss Stephan Winkelmann, the manufacturer is following the philosophy that every model in the line-up gets its own proprietary engine.

So, it appears that the engine downsizing that’s happening throughout the car world—yes, even at the high-performance level—isn’t swaying Lamborghini; they’re going to continue to produce V8, V10 and V12 engines until a better option presents itself. Turbocharging, meanwhile, isn’t on the table for Lamborghini’s performance coupes, even though the Urus’ V8 will have a pair of snails.

The 4.0L engine size is so far the only information Lamborghini has released; we don’t know power figures yet, but expect them to be on-par with the BMW X5M and X6M, and likely with the Mercedes-Benz GLE63 as well. That means we can expect the Urus to make somewhere between 550-560 horsepower, and equal amounts of torque.

As far as availability goes, expect to see the Urus on the road in about two years. Actually, prepare to see quite a few on the road as Lamborghini is expecting to sell 3,000 of these a year, even with a price tag that will likely start at around $300,000.
