A few tips for off-roading

Traveling the world off the beaten path is not for everyone. We must, of course, have a vehicle capable of taking us on our off-road adventures, and cross obstacles without too much difficulty. Of course, you also have to adapt your driving style when you are off-roading.

Here are a few tips to make the most of your drive off the beaten path.

Control your vehicle

We are not talking about learning how to control the vehicle while driving, but rather how to master the technology it offers. For example, you need to know when to use the most rugged settings on your AWD system.

Also make sure you fully understand how to enable or disable as needed traction control, or when to engage the 4LO driving mode. This is important because 4LO is not to be used on the road in most cases, and your traction control system will slow you down if your wheels are spinning. Sometimes, that can be useful, but other times, you want to be able to push through an obstacle.

Equip yourself properly

Talk to your dealer, he will tell you what types of tires are required for the type of driving you want to do. If you plan to do some serious off-roading, equip your vehicle with raised suspensions approved by the manufacturer in order to get higher ground clearance.

Do not go alone

Especially if you’re fairly inexperienced. Off-roading is fun as long as the conditions are favorable. In a perfect world, another rugged vehicle will be with you in order to pull you out of the toughest predicaments.
